Many people need Photoshop a few times a month: to open a PSD from a designer, retouch a portrait or cut out a product. Paying for and installing full desktop software for that is a lot. CutLift is a free Photoshop alternative that runs in the browser, with no install, and keeps the habits you already have: layers, selections, adjustments and keyboard shortcuts.
The toolbar will feel familiar. Marquee is M, Lasso is L with Polygonal and Magnetic variants, the Pen is P for precise Bézier paths, Magic Wand and Quick Selection share W, the Brush is B and the Clone Stamp is S. Remove Object, the Spot Healing Brush and the Healing Brush sit under J. Selections can be feathered, grown, inverted and refined with Refine edges, and Colour Range picks every pixel of a sampled colour.
Curves, Levels, Hue/Saturation, Colour Balance, Black & White, Shadows/Highlights, Liquify, lens correction and the usual blur and sharpen filters are all there. Ctrl or ⌘ + K finds any command by name, which is handy while you learn where things live.
Open a layered PSD and each layer arrives as its own layer. Edit it, then use Save as Photoshop (PSD) to hand the file back to someone who works in Photoshop. Camera RAW files open the same way, so you can edit photos online without a separate converter.
This makes CutLift useful alongside Photoshop as well as instead of it. A freelancer can open a client’s PSD on a borrowed laptop, make a quick change, and send back a PSD that opens normally on the desktop. A team member without a licence can view and export layers without asking a designer for help.
CutLift focuses on photo editing, selections and cutouts rather than painting, print layout or video.
