05The guide
PSD files arrive from designers, agencies and template shops, often on computers without Photoshop. You might only need to check a mockup, take a logo out of a layout or convert a PSD to PNG for a website. CutLift opens the file in your browser, so you can view a PSD online without installing anything.
Drop the PSD on the page and the layers open as separate layers in the Layers panel. Show and hide them to see each version of a design, rename them, reorder them or move them around. You can also edit a layer like any photo: adjust its colour with Curves or Levels, retouch it with the Healing Brush or remove a background from a photo layer.
This makes CutLift a light PSD editor as well as a PSD file opener. When you are done, Save as Photoshop (PSD) writes a new PSD with your layers, ready for someone else to open.
To get images out of the file, use Export (Ctrl or ⌘ + E). Choose which layers to include, the active one, the selected ones, all visible layers or all of them, and save PNG or WebP cutouts with transparency kept. Trim to object crops each cutout to its contents, and Padding adds space around it. All objects in one image combines them instead of saving one file each.
For a flat preview of the whole design, hide the layers you do not want and export the visible ones together.
If you would rather hand the file on to someone who has Photoshop, Save as Photoshop (PSD) writes the changes back into a layered file. A project file keeps your work in CutLift exactly as it is, so you can close the browser and continue editing later.
Client designs are often confidential. The PSD is read on your device and never uploaded, so nothing leaves your computer. Viewing, editing and converting PSD files is free. Camera RAW files open the same way, and HEIC photos open in Safari.
